Lajos Deák-Ébner studied in Munich between 1868 and 1873, later working in Paris and Barbizon, where he absorbed the influence of plein air painting. From 1887 he served as director of the Budapest School of Painting for Women, and thanks to his decorative style he received important mural commissions, including works for the Abbey of Tihany and the Kunsthalle (Műcsarnok) in Budapest.
