Ferdinand de Braekeleer was a Flemish painter who began his artistic training in the studio of Mattheus Ignatius van Bree. Throughout his career, he achieved notable success with historical compositions, but his greatest recognition came from genre scenes depicting everyday family life. He was one of the most celebrated artists of his time and was surrounded by numerous followers and students. Born and died in Antwerp (1792–1883).
