Gyula Rudnay, painter trained in Munich, Rome, and Paris, befriended János Tornyai in Hódmezővásárhely and captured the dramatic lives of war refugees in his paintings. From 1922 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts for thirty years and founded an art colony and painting school in Baja in 1947.
