He began his studies at the Model Drawing School as a student of Bertalan Székely and Károly Lotz, later continuing in Munich and at the Académie Julian in Paris alongside Károly Ferenczy and István Csók. A founding teacher of the Nagybánya artists’ colony, he later became head of the Kecskemét artists’ colony, counting Lajos Kassák, János Kmetty, and Béla Uitz among his students.
