The painter began his studies at the Budapest Mintarajziskola, and from 1880, he was a student at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, where he continued his education under the guidance of Karl von Piloty. In 1888, he won the Munkácsy Scholarship with his painting Hírmondó.
